For this month’s meeting, participants will discuss National Velvet by Enid Bagnold. Reviewers rank National Velvet alongside Black Beauty as one of the greatest horse novels of all time. National Velvet is the story of a 14-year-old girl named Velvet Brown, a shy child who loves horses. After she wins an auction, she inherits a magnificent horse named “The Piebald” who she trains and rides in the Grand National Steeplechase.
