How does Felicity House Work? Felicity House is a place just for women with autism. To be a Felicity House community member you need to be 18 or older with a professional diagnosis of autism. If you do not have a professional diagnosis but wish to get one, reach out to us, we might be able to help. We know there’s no such thing as “one size fits all,” so we do our best to tailor our program menu to fit the needs of each individual woman. Felicity House will always be completely free of charge.
Staff contact Every woman who engages with Felicity House is assigned a single staff person; your staff contact. Having a staff contact means you know who to call or email with questions, and have a friendly face you can look for at workshops or events. Staff contacts help you through your discovery phase, and are great resources for understanding how you can best enjoy the programs Felicity House has to offer.
Discovery Phase Getting to know you! No two women are the same, and we want to get to know you as well as we can, so we can help you get the most out of your time here. The discovery phase helps us identify opportunities and programing at Felicity House that will interest and excite you. How do we do this? During the discovery phase, you’ll meet with your staff contact to talk about your likes and dislikes, your interests and needs. You’ll also get a private tour of Felicity House, and have the opportunity to ask as many questions as you’d like. If it makes you more comfortable, you can also choose to bring someone with you to the tour – a family member, service provider, or a friend.
Your Plan Once the discovery phase is complete, together we’ll create a Felicity House access plan that makes the most sense for you. Your plan may change over time (just like people may change over time!)

Do you love art? Do you enjoy the satisfaction of cooking? Want to learn something new and fascinating like robotics? Felicity House offers a variety of engaging, hands-on workshops that explore exciting topics and offer an opportunity to get to know other people. While there’s never any pressure to talk, community members are expected to engage in a shared activity. All our workshops are structured in the same way, so when you’ve been to one, you know what to expect every time. Be curious. Take home a new interest. Perhaps, make a new friend.
Come tell us what you think because we want to hear it. At Town Hall we take notes from you. All women at Felicity House are invited to attend these community leadership meetings to add their perspective to our growing organization.
Felicity House is for women with autism-of course! But what about their friends, family members and significant others? What about the professionals they work with in other areas of their lives, like teachers and mentors? Several times a year, Felicity House offers Open Door events open to anyone and everyone interested in our programing and mission
Meeting new folks is great but sometimes you may want a bit more consistency and your usual crew. Circles are closed social meetings led by staff. Learn new things or explore topics and activities all with the same group of participants each time. Here we take your lead, so tell us what you would like to do or talk about when the group meets next.
Feel like painting? Use our art studio. Want to read? Enjoy our quiet lounge. Interested in playing a game? Come puzzle with others in the lounge. Open Hours are your chance to use Felicity House’s space. There are no structured activities and you can come and go as you wish during designated times. Staff is always around to assist or answer any questions.
Do you have a special interest you can’t wait to share with others? Share it here! Start or join a Special Interest Group with other participants who share your enthusiasm and love for things like Anime or LEGO. Talk to your staff contact about what you like and feel passionate about. Who knows? You might find a whole new group of people who like the same things as you.
Lectures, movies, games are great but sometimes you just have to move! Physical activity can raise your spirits and your pulse. Try Pilates. Perfect you downward dog in yoga. Hey, never tried Zumba? Now’s your chance! All fitness levels are welcome and workout clothing is required. Classes are small and offer lots of structure and guidance from the instructor.
Almost everyone loves movies. We all have our favorites. Comedies. Dramas. Colorful animation films. Felicity House Movie Nights are one of the most popular attended events. It’s an opportunity to screen a film selected by our own Felicity House Community. Sit back, relax and enjoy pizza and popcorn and though you may want to sing along if it’s a musical, no talking is permitted during the movie.
Sometimes it’s just great to relax and watch something interesting and entertaining. At Felicity House we present lectures and performances that offer inspiration and education and maybe even get your toes tapping. New York City is a great place to find real talent so we offer topics and performers that range from accomplished musicians and dancers to experts in science and history. During lectures or presentations talking is not permitted, but we offer breaks to socialize and move around.
Love to sit around a table and play games? Then see you at our Board Game Night! You can enjoy the classics, like monopoly and apples to apples, or bring games from home. Games range from single player to larger groups. Not sure what game to play? We will help you find something you’ll like and a welcoming group.
